This Project Heart Beats, Pets Are Family, Too!, is a great way to inspire kids to give back based on something so many of them are already passionate about. It is another way you can sprinkle philanthropy into your everyday instruction at school or even at home during summer break.
This Project Heart Beats offers some background and statistics about dogs and cats that are abandoned or end up in shelters. There are open ended questions to get kids thinking about the problems connected with these animals in their area, then offers links to websites that will help kids determine the type of action they can take using their 3Ts (time, talent and treasure) to make a difference.
Students are specifically encouraged to think about how they can use their time and talents, rather than simply doing a fundraiser. The research and design cycle in the lesson will only take about 20 minutes, but be prepared to continue the conversations and action as your kids implement their prototype plans.
We know your kids have the power to make a difference and we look forward to seeing what they come up with. You can share updates via social media using #myprojectheart #projectheartbeats and @ottercares or email us at info@ottercares.org
We believe that everyone and anyone can be a philanthropist who can change our world and make it better. That is why we created Project Heart and offer this philanthropy program for free to educators around the world - igniting the giver inside of every student at any age has the power to transform our world in ways we cannot begin to imagine.
