Back-to-back hurricanes overwhelmed the southern United States in just a few short days. Hurricane Helene made landfall on September 26, 2024 and caused catastrophic flooding, damaging winds and power outages across six states, including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida on October 9, 2024, and was one of the fastest-growing storms in the Gulf of Mexico on record, as it intensified from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in just over 48 hours. This Project Heart Beats gives your students the opportunity to think of ways they can help people effected by these hurricanes and support their efforts to rebuild and heal after experiencing these major natural disasters.
